Sri Lankan authorities have delayed the launch of the nation’s initial gambling regulations after missing the June 30 implementation target. Officials have not yet announced a revised rollout date.
The regulatory documents are currently undergoing expert review. Once the assessment phase concludes, the package will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Department. The framework must then secure Cabinet endorsement, undergo gazette publication, and receive final parliamentary ratification.
Regulatory Scope and Compliance Measures
The first legislative package will establish licensing procedures and operator fee structures. It will also introduce dedicated rules for online gambling platforms and anti-money laundering controls. A ministerial order will simultaneously define the gambling formats authorized under Section 19 of the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act.
